The retailer’s 150th store features more than 4,000 hats, over 400 styles and its largest hat bar

TYLER, Texas, Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Cavender’s World’s Largest Western Hat Shop opens today in Springfield, Missouri, bringing together more than 4,000 hats, over 400 styles and expert fitting, shaping and customization. Located at 3401 E. Ridgeview St., next to Cavender’s PFI, the shop marks the retailer’s 150th store.

“Hat shaping is part skill and part creativity, but it starts with listening to the person who’s going to wear it,” said Carson Armstrong, Store Manager for Cavender’s new hat shop. “We can customize the shape to the person wearing it, change the band and add branded initials for a personal touch. I’ve spent a decade shaping hats, and I’m excited to bring that experience to Springfield and help our customers create something they feel good wearing.”

A 30-foot hat bar, the largest in the Cavender’s fleet, anchors the experience, with six commercial steamers allowing hat shapers to work side by side. A 58-foot premium hat wall displays more than 100 styles. The assortment includes Resistol, American Hat Co., Biggar Hats, Serratelli, Rodeo King and Cavender’s, with choices across materials, colors, shapes and price points.

“What makes this store so special is the selection of hats customers have to choose from. We’ve pulled together a wide range of brands and styles, some that customers may not typically see in our other stores. Whether someone knows exactly what they’re looking for or just wants to explore Western headwear, this is the destination where there’s always something new to try on,” said Lori Fike, Chief Merchant for Cavender’s.

Clay Cavender took a personal role in designing the shop, drawing on his background in fashion merchandising and design. Displays trace nine Western hat shapes from the late 1800s through today and feature replica hats associated with 12 figures from history, entertainment and rodeo, including Annie Oakley, John Wayne, George Strait and Lainey Wilson. An American flag made from 156 custom felt hats and a chandelier constructed from 40 vintage hats complete the setting.

Cavender’s will celebrate the grand opening with a ribbon cutting Friday, October 2, at 1 p.m., with Mike and Clay Cavender in attendance.

The shop is Cavender’s second store in Springfield and fourth in Missouri. Regular hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
